Hello and welcome to the weekly roundup where each Sunday we look back at some of the news items making the headlines over the past seven days.

On Sunday it was reported that the HSE is concerned by increase in dumping of drug paraphernalia in Galway

On Monday it was reported that ”skunk-like” cannabis is associated with one in four new cases of psychosis

On Monday it emerged that an ex-milkman threw a €1,200 bag of cannabis out of the car window during a routine garda stop

On Monday it was reported that a Spanish man was jailed for having €8,000 of cannabis resin concealed within his body

On Monday it emerged that a man has been given a six-year sentence for setting fire to Dublin head shop

On Monday a number of stories relating to heroin were reported. It emerged that legislation is to be prepared to allow for supervised injecting centres for heroin users. It was reported that at least 300 people in Galway are using heroin. It also emerged that 32 used drug needles are lifted from Dublin city streets every day

On Tuesday it emerged that a Garda being questioned with regards to the Ian Bailey case has denied he gave an informant cannabis

On Tuesday it was reported that a Garda dog sniffed out a cannabis cultivation operation by farmer with ‘alternative lifestyle’

On Tuesday it was reported that a Limerick man who was caught growing cannabis was not ‘on the garda radar’

On Tuesday it was reported that a Vietnames man living in the UK was caught growing over €80,000 worth of cannabis at a house in Kilbrittain in Co Cork

On Wednesday it was reported that Gardai feel resources are being lost to tackling drugs problem because of anti-water protests

On Thursday it emerged that a burglar was caught with a supply of cannabis for sale or supply

On Thursday it emerged that Gardai had been called in order to resolve a row over cannabis. The judge said “You couldn’t make it or dream up such a thing as an argument over a bag of cannabis and then calling the guards.”

On Thursday it was reported that a man was caught with cannabis twice in two hours. The first time his plants were caught, two hours later he was found driving with cannabis in his possession.

On Thursday it was reported that two men have been arrested in Westmeath after gardaí seized cannabis herb worth about €30,000 in two separate searches in Mullingar

On Friday it was reported that a Chinese national has gone on trial in Cork in relation to the discovery of a €600,000 cannabis growhouse

On Saturday it was reported that a woman was convicted and fined €250 for having one joint

On Saturday it emerged that an 80 year old caught with around €60,000 worth of cannabis for sale was spared a jail sentence partly because of his age and ill health

On Saturday it was reported a Bray woman accused of having cannabis for sale or supply had her case dismissed due to a break in the chain of custody
