Weekly Roundup: January 18th 2015

Hello and welcome to the weekly roundup where each Sunday we look back at some of the news items making the headlines over the past seven days.

On Tuesday a witness claimed that gardai who were investigating Ian Bailey gave him seven ounces of hash, among other things

On Wednesday it was reported that Gardai in Clare seized five kilograms of cannabis following a search of forestry

On Thursday a New Ross man found with €12,600 worth of cannabis was given a three year suspended sentence

On Saturday it was reported that a garda in her 30s has been arrested in Sligo town and was questioned about drugs-related activities

On Saturday it was reported that six bags of cannabis were found hidden in man’s underpants in Wicklow

Also on Saturday a man in Dublin who was found with €10 worth of cannabis was fined €150

The other article looked at George Sigerson who released a 32 page pamphlet in 1866 advocating the use of the hemp plant in Ireland
